When Did Coffee Become Such an Important Part of Our Culture?
The Beginning:
Before coffee was brewed, it's fruit was prepared somewhat like a wine, and was drunk in such a way. In the 15th century, coffee beans were roasted and brewed and served in coffee houses, where people could meet to discuss while drinking a popular growing beverage. Europe started the trend of coffee being a morning drink, and coffee house started spreading across London. (theculturetrip.com)
Coffee was first brought to America by the British and became popular in 1773, after the Boston Tea Party. The lack of tea required people to find a new drink of choice, and the popularity of the drink became one of the most popular commodities across the globe. Soon after these events, things like bagged coffee, pre roasted coffee, and instant coffee were all being invented and produced.
Coffee Shops:
In 1971, Starbucks opened it's first coffee shop in Seattle Washington. This was a turning point for coffee shops, as Starbucks made customized coffee drinks preferable to each customer. (theculturetrip.com) Coffee became an art, containing endless possibilities of flavor and style.
